Devices are connected to Panopticum once, but their data is often needed by someone else as well: the transport supervision authority, a regional system, the customer of a shipment. A retranslator sends the same points to a second monitoring system, and there is no need for a second device on the vehicle just for reporting.
The Retranslators section
At the top there is a summary: how many channels there are, how many are sending now, how many have errors, how many objects are sent and how many records have gone out. Below are the channels as rows: the switch turns a channel on and off, “Details” opens its state, “Properties” edits the settings.
- Channels: protocol, receiver, state
- New channel
Which protocol to choose
| Protocol | How the receiver recognises the data | What you need from the receiving side |
|---|---|---|
| EGTS | The connection starts with the dispatcher introducing itself | Address, port and dispatcher ID |
| EGTS OID | No introduction, the vehicle is recognised by its object number | Address, port and object numbers |
| Wialon IPS | Our server presents itself to the receiver as a device, one connection per vehicle | Address, port, object identifiers (usually the IMEI) and a password, if one is set |
A new channel
Press “+ Retranslator” and fill in the form.
- The channel name, for example the name of the receiving organisation.
- The address and port of the receiver’s server.
- The protocol. For EGTS the dispatcher ID and re-authorisation appear (0 means do not reconnect while the connection holds), for Wialon IPS the object password.
- Devices: the “All devices of the account” box sends all of them, including future ones. Untick it to choose only the ones you need.
After saving, the password is not shown again; an empty field when editing means ‘keep the old one’.
The channel card
- Channel: the state, the protocol, the receiver and how many objects are sent.
- Sending: how many records have gone out, how many the receiver rejected and when the last acknowledgement came.
- Objects: each vehicle has its own number on the receiver’s side. By default our device number is filled in, but the number is usually dictated by the receiving side: enter it and press “Save numbers”. An IMEI does not fit into an EGTS object number, so a short number is needed there.
How sending works
Points go out in batches, and the receiver acknowledges each one. The mark of what has been sent moves only on an acknowledgement, so if the receiver falls silent, the points pile up with us and go out when it is back. Points older than 15 minutes go out with the ‘from the black box’ flag, that is, from the device’s memory, so that the receiver does not take an old point for the vehicle’s current position.
Points go to the receiver
- Points go out in batches, the receiver acknowledges each one, and only an acknowledgement moves the mark of what has been sent.
- The receiver is silent: the mark stays in place, and the points pile up with us without getting lost.
- The receiver is back: the backlog goes out in order. Points older than 15 minutes carry the ‘from the black box’ flag, so that the receiver does not take them for the vehicle’s current position.
- A rejected record (for example, code 146: the receiver has no such object) counts as sent: otherwise one vehicle would stop sending for the whole fleet.
A record the receiver rejected (for example, it has no such object) counts as sent and shows in the “Rejected by the receiver” counter: otherwise one vehicle would stop sending for the whole fleet.
Resending a past period
If the channel was off and the receiver needs the points for that time, choose the period in the card and press “Start”. No more than 31 days are resent at a time. After a connection drop there is no need to resend: the channel catches up by itself.
The “Start from now” button skips everything accumulated and starts sending from this minute.
Guides
At the bottom of the section there are two PDF documents: “How it works” and a step-by-step client guide with the channel states and common mistakes.

If it did not work
- The channel is in “Error”. Look at the details in the card: a wrong address or port, a refused introduction (the wrong dispatcher ID or password) or a receiver that does not answer.
- “Rejected by the receiver” keeps growing. The receiver does not know the object number: check the object numbers with the receiving side.
- The receiver says there are no points, while ours says “working”. Most likely the protocol variant is mixed up; check it with the receiving side.
