Situation

At the entry, plates with a three-digit region were read with one character missing: of 578 crops in a day, 532 were read as eight characters. Vehicles on the allow list were not recognised.

What we did

We compared recognition models on 4,893 Russian plates and took the best one for nine-character plates. Each plate box is now read three times with different margins, and installers got a rule: the plate must be at least 120 pixels wide in the frame.

Outcome

The share of correct reads of nine-character plates rose from 0.8% to 64.4% per crop, and over several frames of a passage the plate is read with confidence.
